Even though some may say that his looks are best suited for radio, he gives hope and inspiration to millions of men around the world. What he lacks in movie stars looks, rippling muscles and fake tan, he generously makes up for in charisma and manliness.
Many people who haven’t even seen his adult films know who he is, thanks in part to popular culture. Born Ronald Jeremy Hyatt in Flushing, NY to a family of Jewish background, Mr. Jeremy was not exactly the kind of person most would expect to take part in the adult film industry.
His parents were a physicist and an OSS agent during World War II, and Jeremy himself holds a master’s degree in special education from Queens College.
Ron Jeremy’s foray into porn began after he wanted to earn more money than just what he got with his theater acting career, and his work as a high school substitute teacher. His girlfriend at the time sent a photo into Playgirl magazine, the reception being overwhelmingly positive.
However, this was before Ron used his current stage name, and was instead going by his family name “Hyatt” – his grandmother Rose Hyatt began receiving phone calls at all hours, confusing R. Hyatt for our Ron, and eventually this attracted the attention of adult filmmakers.
Fortunately, his family supported his decision to begin a career in adult film on the condition that he did not use the family name. As a result, he adopted his more familiar monicker, Ron Jeremy.
Since Ron Jeremy made his debut in 1979, he has appeared in at least 1700 adult films, even holding a Guinness World Record for making the most appearances in adult film.
However, his fame came mainly from minor appearances and references in popular media. He has appeared in famous films such as Detroit Rock City, The Boondock Saints and several productions by Troma Entertainment.
Again, how is this man so famous despite not exactly being an Adonis? Ron Jeremy sports a penis that is nearly 10 inches in length, which proves that in spite of looks, size can definitely matter.
